I had this happen to me 20 years ago. The guy sent me a check and wanted me to ship some equipment to him. I took the check to my CU and told them that I thought it was a scam and they said, _"Well, go ahead and deposit it and if it clears, you're good. If not, no problem."_ So I deposited it and waited for them to clear it. It obviously bounced, as I suspected it would. The CU then turned around and _CHARGED ME A CHECK BOUNCE FEE!_ Yeah, the manager of that branch and I had words. They reverse the fee.

All scams are successful, and that's why they never go away because people keep falling for it.

I use to cross into BC and back 20+yrs ago and never had a problem coming back just with the Canadian border crossing entering! Back than coming into the US all you needed was a US drivers license! The Canadian border agents were usually rude as can be and looking for any reason not to let a US citizen in!

I’m a dual citizen , even I know that the INS clearance paperwork has to be approved 72hrs before crossing …newbs gotta learn .

So why is this not the banks fault in any way? My friend lost her bank account along with $800 because they accused her of check fraud. Someone needs to hold the banks responsible for creating the environment that enables this situation.

We should start another 1861. Things have gotten so beyond ridiculous, and our government is obviously not for the people anymore. We as a society no longer hold to our founding ideals and have become the most authoritative country in the world. After working for the government and being in law enforcment for nearly 15 years i really read into what we were doing and we are way beyond what even russia or china or north korea do in terms of what most of us would deem unacceptable by foreign goverments yet we continue to let our government trample our rights and freedoms. It's honestly sad to see how apethetic we've become. We really should be looking up to the french. Those guys get it. They dont put up with shit. Speed trap cameras, nah fam, they wasnt even havin that.

I don't get how the scam works. Whenever I've been paid by cheque, nothing happens until the money clears and I can move it to the other account. So, I guess if you're in a rush, or dumb, that's how they get you.
